How to keep your Concrete pool Sparking Clean in the Illawarra- Backwashing!

Keeping your Concrete pool Sparking Clean in the Illawarra! Understand when to Backwash your Swimming Pool.

As part of regular pool care, we recommend checking your glass media filter to see if it’s time for a backwash. Unlike traditional sand filters, your glass media filter traps finer particles and requires less frequent backwashing – about every 4-6 weeks, or whenever the pressure gauge reads 8-10 psi above normal.

Why its important to backwash your pool filter?

*Keeps your water sparkling and clear.

*Reduces strain on your pump and filtration system.

*Helps chemicals work more effectively.

*Extends the life of your filtration media.

Quick backwash guide:

1. Turn off your pump (always start here!).

2. Set the valve to “Backwash” and run for 2-3 minutes (or until the water runs clear).

3. Rinse (optional): Set the valve to ‘“Rinse” for 30-60 seconds to settle the media.

4. Return to “Filter” mode and turn the pump back on.

Don’t forget to top up the water level and test your pool chemistry after backwashing!

Another tip is to backwash your pool before planned rain is coming to save on water costs- Keep in mind your phostpate levels when using this method ( that will be another blog!)
